Introduction
We encourage citizens to give of their time and talents, meeting our community’s needs through volunteering. Volunteer Pasadena supports the active participation of volunteers in our community. We partner with private and community based organizations to provide city-wide volunteer opportunities.
Volunteer Pasadena makes every effort to involve as many citizens as possible in the actual workings of city government. Volunteers are a diverse group with a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Volunteer Pasadena enriches the quality of life in the community by enhancing City services through the individual efforts of the volunteers. Volunteers gain insight into, and understanding of, the complex problems the City faces in providing all the services requested of us.
Volunteer Spotlight
Our volunteers are the best in the world...so naturally, we wanted to tell the world! That's how our Volunteer Spotlight came about, and now you can see some of our most dedicated volunteers as we spotlight them each month with an award plaque presented by Mayor Johnny Isbell. Be looking for them on Pasadena Channel cable television 16 and 121.1 and now on at&T U-Verse channel 99, on the City's Facebook page and here on the City website.
Background
Volunteer Pasadena was initiated by Mayor John Manlove. During his mayoral campaign the mayor was impressed by the willingness of citizens to volunteer due to their love of Pasadena. This solidified his belief in the generosity and caring of the citizens of Pasadena. Mayor Manlove knew that if a volunteer program was created Pasadenans would be willing to share their time and talents with others. The Volunteer Pasadena program was established in April 2002. Our volunteer program continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of our community and to utilize the diverse skills and abilities of citizens.
Giving Back to the Community
Volunteer Pasadena provides opportunities for citizens to contribute to the welfare of the community through volunteerism. From tutoring programs to customer service surveys and participating in special events, there are numerous opportunities available within the City. The first step for potential volunteers is to complete the Volunteer Application Forms. Upon review of the application and the passing of a background check, the Volunteer Pasadena Manager will contact the applicant regarding his/her interests and qualifications.
