The Persons Crimes Division is under the command of
Lieutenant C. Goodman who answers directly to Assistant Chief M.P. Jackson.
The division is directly supervised by a Sergeant and operates within the hours of 8:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The division members work eight hour shifts, five
days a week, primarily Monday through Friday. Situations that
require the services of a detective outside normal business hours
are handled on a "call-out" basis.
The Persons Crimes Division investigates all crimes that require follow-up investigation from assault to homicide, excluding non-fatal incidents involving juveniles. The division
routinely conducts follow-up investigations associated with
preliminary investigations done within the patrol division,
typically generated from calls for service or criminal activity that
was actually witnessed or discovered by the officer in the course of
duty. Detectives generally work "after the fact," gathering
information to identify and ultimately apprehend perpetrators of a
wide variety of crime. They routinely engage in such activities as
crime scene search, evidence collection, interview, interrogation,
minor photography, documentation, and case preparation for
trial.
