The eight full-time officers assigned to Community Services also provide drug abuse and resistance education to elementary students. Our division provides this service in twenty-four schools in three different public school districts and two private schools within the city limits of Pasadena. The DARE curriculum is presented to approximately 2,000-3,000 fifth grade students per year. |

An additional 25,000-30,000 Kindergarten through fourth grade students received visitation from DARE officers who acquainted them with police officers and the DARE concept. Five one-week sessions of DARE summer camp were conducted to enhance and/or reinforce the concept and provide recreational activities for children.

7th Grade Dare Curriculum |
The newest addition to the DARE program in Pasadena is the addition of the 7th Grade curriculum. The curriculum is a nine-week program designed to teach students refusal skills, normative beliefs about peer substance use, and the physical, social and psychological effects of substance use on adolescents. The seventh grade program will be evaluated through a rigorous national study and is the first national study to blend the latest in prevention science with DARE, the largest prevention delivery network in existence.
