The Auto Theft Division is under the command of Lt. A. Espinoza and is directly supervised by Sergeant J. Anderson. There are six detectives and one civilian secretary assigned to this division which operates from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday, with the personnel divided as needed to cover the ten hour time span of operation. Situations that require the services of an Auto Theft detective outside normal business hours are handled on a "call-out" basis.
The responsibility of the Auto Theft Division is the follow-up investigation of cases associated with "car-jackings", vehicle thefts, vehicle burglaries, unauthorized use of motor vehicles, stolen vehicle parts, "chop shops" and thefts of boats, trailers and heavy equipment. In addition, they investigate title fraud, violations associated with the operation of salvage yards, used car dealerships, vehicle parts houses, and any other entities associated with vehicles and their commerce.
