Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and
Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Call for activities and times.
Seniors are invited to
enjoy games, daily activities, special events, or just drop by for coffee and
socialize with friends. The center offers activities such as aerobics, line
dancing, tap dancing, square dancing, craft classes, bridge class & play,
forty-two, and Bunco. Health equipment, computers and billiard tables are also
available free of charge.
Monthly events include casino trips and Out to
Lunch Bunch day trips, which takes seniors on short day trips to area points of
interest. Special events held throughout the year include the Valentine’s Day
Dance, the Ms. Pasadena Senior Pageant, the Senior Tribute & dance, the
Senior Health & Fitness Fair, the theme dance, the Craft Fest, the Holiday
Open House and the Christmas dance. The center also plays host to quarterly pool
tournaments.
In addition, the City of Pasadena sponsors the Silver Star
Senior Organization at the Madison Jobe Senior Center. This group meets at the
center on the first Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. All seniors aged 60 and
older who reside in the City of Pasadena are invited to join the group at no
charge. Each member receives a card, which provides discounts for city programs
and classes offered through the Parks and Recreation Department. Local merchants
are encouraged to offer discounts on goods and services for Silver Star Seniors.
Monthly meetings provide information on issues concerning senior citizens,
entertainment, refreshments, door prizes and the opportunity to sign up for
trips. Members are encouraged to visit and play games after the meeting.
The
Salvation Army operates the congregate and home delivered meal programs for
senior citizens in Pasadena. They are located at 2732 Cherrybrook. T his
program serves a noon meal Monday through Friday and provides recreation
activities. The program is funded in part by the City of Pasadena, the Texas
Department on Aging and Houston/Harris County Area Agency on Aging. It is
available to all U.S. citizens age 60 and older and their spouses.
