Announcements and Information
Pasadena Public Library closing each location for a week in September
Aug 31 2016 - 05:01:00 pm
Each branch of the Pasadena Public Library will be closed for a week in September: the Fairmont library (4330 Fairmont) will be closed September 5-10, and the central library (1201 Jeff Ginn) will be closed September 12-17.
The library will be closed for an extensive inventory and upgrades, including the addition of self-checkouts and remodeling the book store.

Due to the heavy staffing demands of the inventory, all library programs, classes and events have been canceled from September 5 through September 17. The MovieBox will not be impacted by the inventory, so patrons can continue to check out movies.

Anyone who returns a book during the inventory may see fines on their online account, but any fines incurred because of the inventory will be waived.

For more information, contact the Pasadena Public Library at (713) 477-0276 or (281) 998-1095.

Texas International Shootout features wheelchair basketball competition & chance to win free Whataburger for a year
Aug 19 2016 - 01:12:00 pm
Thanks to the generosity of Whataburger, a major sponsor of the Texas International Shootout Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, one lucky person will win free Whataburger for a year.

During the tournament, there will a special free throw contest held on Saturday, September 3 at the Pasadena Convention Center. The contest is free to enter and is open to anyone (ages 10+).

Here’s how it works:

  • Come to the Pasadena Convention Center (7902 Fairmont Pkwy) on Saturday, September 3 to sign up. Registration is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 3.
  • At approximately 1:15 p.m., there will be a random draw to select 10 participants from the pool of entries.
  • The free throw contest is scheduled to begin around 1:45 p.m. The 10 participants will each attempt to make a free throw while sitting in a sports wheelchair. Anyone who makes the shot will remain in the contest for another round; anyone who misses will be eliminated from the competition. The competition will continue with players facing off to make free throws until there is only one player left in the competition. The winner will receive 52 vouchers for a free Whataburger.

The free throw contest is just one of the many highlights in this year’s Texas International Shootout, which will be held September 2-4. Wheelchair athletes – including players from Colombia, a team of veterans from Dallas and an 18 & under team – will travel to Pasadena to face-off for three days of intense competition.

The 11 teams will compete in a tournament throughout the weekend. Games will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, with championship games on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Hosted by the City of Pasadena, the Texas International Shootout Wheelchair Basketball Tournament is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The tournament is open to the public, and admission is free.
