Celebrate the holiday season in Pasadena with our 12 Days of Christmas. December is full of fun activities and programs for people of all ages; click the links below to learn more about the events that are coming up:

Entries now being accepted for Holiday Lighted Parade, coming up on Dec. 3

Together with the Strawberry Festival, the City of Pasadena will host its annual Holiday Lighted Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3 beginning at 7 p.m. The parade will begin at the intersection of Fairmont Pkwy. and Pansy St., then will travel along Fairmont to Watters, make a U-turn and go back to Pansy.

Parade entries are still being accepted. There is no fee to enter. Entry forms are available online at www.strawberryfest.org. Awards will be given out in eight categories, including best overall, best lighted entry, most holiday spirit and most unique.

There will be road closures in the area on the day of the parade. Pansy St. will be closed from Keith to Fairmont 3-9 p.m. on Saturday. In addition, Fairmont Pkwy. will be closed on Saturday, from approximately 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Holiday Lighted Parade has been an annual tradition in Pasadena since 2007 and has grown steadily to become one of the city’s most popular Christmas traditions. Last year’s parade included more than 70 entries and drew thousands of spectators.

City facilities closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving holiday

All City facilities will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 through the weekend (Nov. 25-27) for the Thanksgiving holiday. This includes City Hall, Water Billing, the Municipal Services Building, the Pasadena Animal Shelter, both libraries and all recreation centers. All emergency services will remain open as usual.

There will not be any City garbage collection on Thursday or Friday. For areas of the city served by Waste Management trash pick-up, there will not be any garbage collection on Thursday; however, Waste Management will be picking up trash on its regular schedule on Friday.

All emergency response services will remain available as usual.

City facilities will resume normal hours of operation on Monday, Nov. 28.
More than 90 vehicles up for bid in public auction on Saturday, Nov. 19

The City of Pasadena’s public auction will be held on Saturday, November 19, at the Maintenance Services Facility (3124 Red Bluff Road). More than 90 vehicles are scheduled to be up for bid, including surplus City vehicles, as well as confiscated and abandoned vehicles.

All of the auction items may be viewed on Friday, November 18, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, vehicle viewing starts at 7 a.m., and bidding will begin at 9 a.m. sharp.

Bidders can register on-site the day of the auction, beginning at 7 a.m., or fill out the online auction registration form on the City’s website and email it back for more convenience.

Acceptable forms of payment are cash, MasterCard, Visa and American Express cards only. Checks will not be accepted. Items are sold “As Is, Where Is,” and there are no warranties.

Help feed our community at Can Do Food Drive on Thursday, Nov. 17

The Can Do Food Drive will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium (2906 Dabney).

Hosted by the City of Pasadena, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Pasadena Independent School District, this food drive is held each November to collect non-perishable food for five Pasadena food pantries:
• Pasadena Community Ministries
• Salvation Army
• Sarah’s House
• The Bridge
• Society of St. Stephen (food pantry at First United Methodist Church).

The food collected each year helps feed thousands of Pasadena families in need. Last year, more than 40,000 lbs. of food was donated at the event and this year, event organizers are hoping to surpass the 50,000 lb. mark.

Any canned goods and non-perishable food items are accepted and appreciated. The following items are the top 10 most requested by the Can Do recipient organizations:

1. Vienna sausages/Spam
2. Jelly
3. Peanut butter
4. Cans of fruit
5. Cereal
6. Macaroni & cheese
7. Tuna
8. Bottles of juice
9. Beans
10. Soup

Additionally, the Can Do Food Drive also accepts monetary donations, which are tax-deductible. Anyone who would like to make a monetary donation can make the check payable to City of Pasadena and mail to: City of Pasadena, PO Box 672, Pasadena, TX 77501-0672, Attn: Barbara Sitzman (Can Do Food Drive).

Animal adoptions, raffles, food & more at event on Saturday, Nov. 12

The Pasadena Animal Shelter will host an animal adoption event this Saturday, Nov. 12 in partnership with T’nT Hair Concept Salon. The event will be held at the salon (7219 Fairmont Pkwy. #125) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dogs and cats from the Pasadena Animal Shelter will be available for adoption at the event. The adoption fee is $50 for dogs and $25 for cats. The fee includes a microchip and spay/neuter.

In addition, the event will feature face painting, hair braiding, bounce houses, food, music and raffles.

During this event, the salon will also be collecting donations for the animal shelter. Any guest who donates one of the following approved items will receive $5 discount on salon services:

• Dog food:
     o Wet: Pedigree or Blue Buffalo
     o Dry: Needs to be all brown food (no food coloring or dyes). Example: Blue Buffalo, Purina, Iams, etc.
     o Any size milk-bone treats
• Cat food:
     o Wet: Friskies Cat or Kitten
     o Dry: Needs to be all brown food (no food coloring or dyes). Example: Blue Buffalo, Purina, Iams, etc.
• Greenie’s Pill Pockets (so the shelter can easily medicate the dogs and cats)
• Newspapers
• Washcloths
• Towels
• Blankets
• Small pet beds
• Dog and cat toys
• Stainless steel food bowls
Pay off overdue library fines by donating non-perishable food items

Now through Tuesday, Nov. 15, library patrons can pay off any overdue library fines by donating canned food or non-perishable food items. Each donated food item equals $1 credit toward the patron’s account balance.

Food donations can be dropped off at the central library, located at 1201 Jeff Ginn Memorial Drive, or the Fairmont library, located at 4330 Fairmont Pkwy.

Can the Fine is part of the City’s Can Do Food Drive, an annual event that collects non-perishable food for local non-profit groups and charities; everything collected stays in Pasadena. The 2016 Can Do Food Drive event will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium (2906 Dabney). Low-cost pet vaccinations and adoption event on Saturday, Nov. 5

Low-cost vaccinations for cats and dogs will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Crenshaw Park Pavilion (4950 Burke). The vaccination packages that will be offered include:

For Dogs:
• Package A (Rabies vaccination): $12
• Package B (Rabies/DHPP vaccinations): $29
• Package C (Rabies/DHPP/Bordetella vaccinations): $46
• Package D (Rabies/DHPP/Bordetella/Canine Influenza vaccinations): $68

For Cats:
• Package A (Rabies vaccination): $12
• Package B (Rabies/FVRCPC vaccinations): $29
• Package C (Rabies/FVRCPC/FELV vaccinations): $50

In addition, the Pasadena Animal Shelter will have cats and dogs available for adoption at the event.
