The Can Do Food Drive is an annual event hosted by the City of Pasadena, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce and Pasadena Independent School District.

Held each November, the food drive collects non-perishable food for five Pasadena food pantries: Pasadena Community Ministries, Salvation Army, Sarah’s House, The Bridge and Society of St. Stephen (food pantry at First United Methodist Church).

The food collected each year helps feed thousands of Pasadena families in need. Last year, more than 40,000 lbs. of food was donated at the event and this year, event organizers are hoping to surpass the 50,000 lb. mark.

The restaurant fundraisers will run on weekdays from Oct. 17 through Oct. 28. The Can Do Food Drive will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium (2906 Dabney).

A printable schedule is now available. For more information about the Can Do Food Drive, call (713) 475-7259.
Pay off overdue library fines by donating non-perishable food items
Oct 10 2016 - 04:19:00 pm

Fire Prevention Festival offers safety info & fun for the whole family
Oct 06 2016 - 12:53:00 pm
The annual Fire Prevention Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Strawberry Park. Hosted by the Pasadena Fire Department and the Pasadena Fire Marshals’ Office, this popular, family-friendly event is full of fun activities for kids and important fire safety information for everyone.

Kids can meet Sparky the Fire Dog and get an up-close look at fire equipment and rescue vehicles. The event will also feature moon walks, a rock walk, a petting zoo, face painting, a water tattoo table and door prizes.

In addition, the festival also features several informational booths, displays and activities that teach fire safety, while still allowing kids to have plenty of fun. Kids can participate in demonstrations of fire response techniques, like “Stop, Drop and Roll” and “Get Low and Go,” and can even earn their Jr. Fire Prevention Officer certification by learning about and completing six of the nine fire disciplines offered.

“Fire can be quickly become devastating,” Pasadena Fire Marshal David Brannon said. “By teaching some basic safety tips, hopefully we can prevent things happening to them, as well as their family, loved ones or even innocent bystanders.”

Admission to the Fire Prevention Festival is free. For more information, contact the Pasadena Fire Marshal’s office at (713) 475-5556.

Turner Elementary collects 2800+ lbs. of food, named 2015 Can Do Food Drive champion
Oct 03 2016 - 04:52:00 pm
Congratulation to Turner Elementary on being named the 2015 Can Do Food Drive champions! Not only has Turner won this contest both years -- beating out more than 40 other schools in Pasadena Independent School District for the title -- but they also beat their own record. In last year's food drive, they collected more than 2800 lbs. of food!

This year's competition between the schools will be starting soon. Donate canned goods and other non-perishable food items to help your child's school win and to help re-stock food pantries at local non-profit organizations. Everything collected in the Can Do Food Drive stays right here in Pasadena.

Don't have a student in a Pasadena ISD school? No problem! Collection containers will be available at several locations throughout the city, and the Can Do Food Drive will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

For more information on the Can Do Food Drive, view the event flyer or contact Barbara Sitzman at (713) 475-7259.
