Pasadena competes for title of healthiest city in the state
Jan 19 2017 - 06:33:00 pm
Pasadena is in the running to be named one of the healthiest cities in Texas. Last year, the city held the top spot in a statewide competition called the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge until the final weeks and ultimately finished in second place. This year, we need the help of the entire community to win the title.

Here's how you can help:

1) Register to participate in the competition by signing up online at the It's Time Texas Community Challenge website: Be sure to choose Pasadena as your community. The city earns 1,000 points for every person who signs up.

2) After signing up, individuals can click on "Log Activity +" in the top right corner of the page and track weight loss or log activity to earn points. The action that earns the city the most points is uploading a "Healthy Selfie" photo in which you are making a healthy choice, like eating a nutritious meal or snack, drinking water or exercising. Again, be sure to choose Pasadena as your community. Tracking your activity earns 50 points, logging weight loss earns 100 points, and each healthy selfie uploaded earns the city another 200 points in the competition.

3) Businesses, schools and religious organizations can all participate in the challenge too. Each workplace wellness pledge earns Pasadena 250 points, and faith-based leader pledges add 250 points as well.

The winning community in each size category will receive an $1,800 community grant to put toward future health-related efforts, along with a trophy, school district banner, Governor’s certificate, among other prizes.

We encourage you to get creative and get healthy by coming up with fun ways to get involved in this challenge. But hurry! The competition ends on Friday, March 31.

Christmas tree recycling begins Jan. 9
Jan 05 2017 - 05:30:00 pm
Go green with your Christmas greenery! Beginning on Monday, January 9, crews will start picking up Christmas trees for recycling. Participating in the program is easy: just make sure your tree is green (not flocked) and bare (no ornaments, icicles or tree stands left on it) and place it at the curb.

Pick-up will run Monday through Friday, throughout the month.

After January 31, all trees, including those that are flocked, will be picked up on heavy trash day only.

The trees will be recycled and mulched. Later, the mulch can be purchased and used in gardens and landscaping.
