Prescription Drug Take Back Day this Saturday
Apr 24 2014 - 01:33:00 pm
Pasadena’s next Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Summit (1838 E. Sam Houston Pkwy – near the intersection of the Beltway and Red Bluff Road). At the event, people can drop off any expired or unwanted medications to have them disposed of safely.

The Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which is hosted through a partnership of the Pasadena Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol, was created to help address prescription drug abuse, which has become a serious problem. In fact, the Office of National Drug Control Policy now calls it an epidemic.

Every day, approximately 2,000 teens abuse prescription drugs for the first time, and most abused prescription drugs come from family and friends’ homes. The Prescription Drug Take Back helps keep those prescription drugs out of the hands off kids, off the streets and out of our waterways.

At the event, prescription and over-the-counter medications can be dropped off in their containers or emptied into one of the receptacles at the site. Everything will be kept completely anonymous, no questions asked, and blank labels will be available for anyone concerned about protecting their privacy. The service is anonymous, free and easy – all you have to do is pull up in your vehicle and drop off the medications you’d like to dispose of.

The Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a free event. Everyone in the community is encouraged to take advantage of this important service, which only takes a few minutes.
