Get free VIN etching this Friday and help keep the bad guys away
Jul 22 2015 - 04:36:00 pm
Everyone in the community can get a valuable service for their vehicle for free on Friday, July 24, courtesy of the Pasadena Police Department. Officers from PPD's Auto Crimes Unit will offer VIN etching, a process in which a vehicle's unique ID number is etched onto the glass, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the police department's Community Services office (4106 Fairmont).

VIN etching is one tool that law enforcement agencies use to identify and recover stolen vehicles. It can act as a deterrent to thieves and may also lead to discounts on automobile insurance.

The process takes only a few minutes and can be done even if the vehicle's windows are tinted.

If done by a private vendor, VIN etching can cost up to $300, but the Pasadena Police Department is offering the service for free to the community. For more information, visit
