Industrial chimney implosion planned for Sunday, April 12

An implosion is scheduled for Sunday, April 12 at 10 a.m. at the AES Deepwater plant, located at 701 Light Company Road along the Houston Ship Channel. A 475-ft. industrial chimney and decommissioned power production plant building are both scheduled for demolition at this time, but may be delayed due to weather conditions.

People in the area can expect to hear multiple blasts and see a cloud of dust and debris. There are no hazardous particles or residue in either of the structures being imploded, and efforts will be made to minimize the dispersion. Viewing of the implosion is strongly discouraged.

Temporary road closures will be in effect on Sunday from 6 a.m. to noon at the following locations:
  • Glasgow St. at 225 Feeder
  • Blackwell St. at 225 Feeder
  • Park St. at the 225 Feeder
  • Light Company Rd. at 225 Feeder
  • Shaw Ave. at Richey St.
  • Shaw Ave. at Light Company Rd.
  • North Richey access at the railroad track
  • Dead end at the north end of Blackwell St.
In addition, the section of SH-225 from Red Bluff to Allen Genoa will be closed briefly (less than 10 minutes) around the time of the implosion.
